JANINE MCILWRAITH

ASSOCIATE LL.B, B MED RAD SC, LLM

Janine is a highly accomplished health lawyer who has co-authored two prominent medical law texts, Health Care & the Law (4th and 5th editions) and Australian Medical Liability (2008) in addition to having edited several chapters of Halsburys Laws of Australia focussing on professional negligence in the health arena.

In addition to her significant academic accomplishments, Janine practised for four years as a specialist medical lawyer in two leading Sydney firms.

Janine has been a guest speaker at health law conferences (both national and international) and has presented at seminars including to medical staff at a regional hospital.
 
Like a number of the staff at Catherine Henry Partners, Janine’s first career was in the area of health sciences. She trained as a radiation therapist in 1992 and went on to work in that role for 9 years and  in a range of health facilities including in England and Scotland. She completed her legal education (LLB Honours) at the University of Wollongong and was the recipient of a number of prizes for academic achievement during the course of her undergraduate degree. She has a Masters degree from the University of Sydney.

Janine is a part time solicitor at Catherine Henry Partners and in her spare time is undertaking a PhD in the area of patient safety through the University of NSW.

Janine has returned to her home town of Newcastle in recent years and is pleased to have the opportunity to work as part of the large health law practice at Catherine Henry Partners.
