SUCCESSION LAW

Succession law is the broad term used for the laws governing the distribution of property following a person’s death. Just as property is divided and transferred following separation or divorce, property is also divided and transferred among family members when a person dies.

The family unit is at the heart of succession law and it safeguards and facilitates the transmission of private property to dependents and family members after death. It also allows a person to nominate who will look after minor children should both parents die.
